About the Tour
The magical Cloud Forest, Orchids, Bromeliads, Tree ferns. Bellavista lodge.
Our nature experience starts at 5:30am, with a pickup from your hotel in Quito. We will drive to the western slopes of the Andes to the heart of the Cloud Forest to the Bellavista reserve, this is the first private Ecological reserve in Ecuador, with 347 hectares included in the National System of Protected Areas (SNAP). Hunting, mining, and deforestation is not permitted here under Ecuadorian law.
Bellavista is home to stunning birds, orchids, bromeliads, mammals, amphibians and reptiles endemic to the Choco Bioregion. Close to the main restaurant you can enjoy viewing the Masked Trogon, Strong-billed Woodcreeper, Masked Flowerpiercer, and the Golden-crowned Flycatcher. The main hummingbird feeders attract Collared Incas, Buff-tailed Coronets, Gorgeted Sunangels, and Violet-tailed Sylphs. Hopefully, we might also see a Tayra, a mammal in the weasel family.
We will do an easy walk on the Bellavista trails to enjoy the stunning and lush cloud forest, enjoying the unique landscape of the western side of the Andes. During our walk, we will be seeking the Plate-billed Mountain Toucan, Toucan Barbet, and Golden-headed Quetzal. We may also be fortunate enough to spot an Ocilla ( similar to a small ocelot), as it has been seen recently.
Lunch will be at the reserve, followed by a transfer back to Quito.
